The Australian Government has released a new set of free online resources, developed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) to help teachers further develop their skills in managing behaviour and minimising disruption in the classroom.

One in three teachers report losing teaching time due to disruptive behaviour, significantly impacting students’ ability to learn.

The new set of resources includes:

  • 15 videos covering the topics in the classroom management guides
  • 3 professional learning resources and a facilitation guide
  • a guide and 15 observation tools to support teacher peer coaching
  • 7 practice guides offering practical advice for teachers supporting students’ diverse needs.

Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, said:

“A lot of teachers tell me that when they leave university and jump into the classroom for the first time they don't feel as prepared as they should to manage a classroom full of students.

“By providing these resources to teachers we can help them to manage the classroom which is good for them and good for their students.

“When students are fully engaged in the classroom, they learn at their best and teachers have more time to teach.”

The resources expand the ‘Engaged Classroom Through Effective Classroom Management’ project, with the first two releases covering the fundamentals of classroom management, and tactics for school leaders to create safe and supportive learning.

The resources were developed in consultation with teachers and classroom management expert, Dr Tim McDonald.
