National Workforce Census results

The 2013 National Early Childhood Education and Care Workforce Census report presents a national overview of the early childhood education and care workforce, selected characteristics of child care services, preschool programmes and staff survey highlights.

The data tables provide data from the 2013 Census separated by state and territory as well as remoteness categories.

Where tables were included for the first time in 2013, these tables have also been reproduced using data from the 2010 Census.

The 2013 Census built on the information from the 2010 Census which for the first time provided key information on all early learning service types including preschools.

Data from the 2013 Census showed that the workforce increased by 10 per cent in the three years since 2010 and excellent gains were made in building a qualified workforce. This valuable information informed Australian and state and territory governments’ policy decision-making for child care and early learning.
