Funding for non-government schools

The Australian Government provides funding to the approved authorities of non-government schools to assist with the recurrent costs of school education.

The Australian Education Act 2013 is the principal legislation for the provision of Australian Government funding to schools.

TheGuide to the Australian Education Act 2013provides more information.

Australian Government funding for most non-government schools is reduced by the anticipated capacity of their school community to financially contribute towards the school’s operating costs. The reduction is based on the socioeconomic status (SES) score of the school or the approved system authority.

To apply for Australian Government funding to assist with the recurrent costs of school education or to vary existing arrangements, the applicant needs to complete an Approved Authority Application form which is available at the School Entry Point website.  Further information is available by calling 1800 677 027 Option 1, Option 3 or by going to Grantsanddata.help@education.gov.au.
