2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap

The Australian Government has commissioned the 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap to support future investment decisions in research infrastructure. This will ensure Australian researchers can access world class major national research infrastructure. The 2016 Roadmap will be provided to Government in February 2017.

In the National Innovation and Science Agenda the Government made a commitment to develop a Roadmap that will outline Australia’s priority research infrastructure needs over the next ten years.

The 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap will be used to support future investment decisions that will ensure Australian researchers can access world class major national research infrastructure.

The Chief Scientist for Australia, Dr Alan Finkel AO, is leading the development of the 2016 Roadmap. Dr Finkel is supported by an Expert Working Group comprising eminent Australians with experience and knowledge of the research and innovation system. The Terms of Reference for the Expert Working Group can be found here.

During the first stage of consultation the Expert Working Group received 325 written submissions and consulted with over 580 stakeholders in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Townsville, Canberra, Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne. Written submissions are available at Issues Paper and consultation process.

Informed by submissions and consultations, the Draft 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap was developed and released for comment on 5 December 2016. Comments have now closed. Public submissions to the Draft 2016 Roadmap will be available online in the near future. Please direct any inquires on the Roadmap to: NationalRIRoadmap@education.gov.au
